The organization was founded with
the purpose to offer financial assistance, educational, medical and social resources to the populace of Saint Eustatius.
Since it’s founding on November 14th 1989, the Maria, Arabella, Josiah, and Esther Berkel – Christian Education Foundation, better known as the Berkel Foundation has been established on St Eustatius
Since its beginning it has accomplished many goals such as restoring, down street, bringing christian education from ages k _8 to the island, and preserving artifacts of early island living by creating a replica of their home into a museum.
From its early inception, the group of Ishmeal Berkel as President. Ruby as Secretary, Clifton as Treasurer with Ivan, Darlinton, and James as its first members.
After operating for only One Year The foundation’s purpose was amended to a wider scope which included building and operating a school, to supply and organize medical and social aspects that includes home care and to set up and operate recreational facilities.
Today their work continues as other members have joined into day to day leadership and all with the visionary eye of its founder.

The informality of family life is a blessed condition that allows us all to become our best while looking our worst.
Chisaling a path for the family developement, he has created many prosperous elements that has increased the prestige of the Berkel name.
Where there is no vision, the people will perish
Along with being a loving Uncle, and the last of the surviving children of Joe & Esther his insight and guidance has been invaluable throughout. May the roots he planted bring everlasting fruit to the family.
